Final Regulations Formalizing DACA Under Review at White House

A final rule governing the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program is under review at the White House budget office, the last step before publication in the Federal Register.

The Department of Homeland Security sent the regulation (RIN 1616-AC64) to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs Tuesday.

The Obama administration established DACA in 2012 to provide young, undocumented immigrants brought to the US as children with protections from deportation and authorization to work. The program, which didn’t previously go through the regulatory process, has faced multiple court challenges that have thrown its long-term status into doubt.
