FedEx to Settle EEOC Disability Bias Case Over Telework Refusal

FedEx will pay $280,000 to resolve allegations brought by the EEOC that the company discriminated against a disabled dispatcher by requiring workers return to office.

The consent decree reached with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission settles charges that FedEx Express violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by denying telework accommodations to disabled dispatchers who had worked from home successfully for several years, during which their on site office changed from New Jersey to Manhattan.

The deal underscores evolving remote work considerations in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, which led many employers to put in place temporary telework policies.
