FedEx Ground Package System Inc. will pay $3.3 million and improve its visual workplace safety alerts to settle an EEOC lawsuit alleging it failed to accommodate deaf or hard-of-hearing package handlers and package handler applicants, Pennsylvania federal court records show.
The consent decree, if approved by the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, will provide relief to 24 charging parties and 205 other claimants in individual amounts set by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The agency sued in 2015 under the Americans with Disabilities Act, accusing FedEx Ground of systemic disability discrimination.
