Federal Worker Unions Back Vaccine Mandates Amid Local Backlash

Public employee unions expressed support for requiring Covid vaccines for federal workers as President Joe Biden moved to impose such a plan, while local and state mandates drew criticism from labor leaders in New York City, Illinois and California.

Biden’s expected plan to require inoculations or testing of U.S. government employees comes amid a spike in cases fueled by vaccine holdouts.

“We’ve got over 600,000 people dead as a result of this epidemic, and these vaccinations have been proven to be safe,” Paul Shearon, president of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, said in an interview. ...
