Federal Court Rules for State of Virginia In Challenge to Individual Coverage Mandate

A federal district court judge in Virginia ruled Dec. 13 in favor of the state’s constitutional challenge to the federal health care law, setting in motion an appeal that is expected to go to the U.S. Supreme Court (Virginia v. Sebelius).

In a 42-page opinion, Judge Henry E. Hudson of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia granted the state attorney general’s motion for summary judgment in the case filed against the federal health system overhaul law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
