The Ninth Circuit temporarily put on hold an order requiring the Trump administration to hand over plans to slash government agencies.
The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit grantedthe government’s request to delay production of the documents until after the court considers requests for a rehearing.
The court last week ordered the Trump administration to comply with a broad discovery request issued by a lower court judge in July. It seeks detailed records to disclose all of the federal worker layoffs that have taken place since Trump took office, as well as large-scale reorganization plans that have never been made public.
The July order required the Trump administration to submit the records for a closed-door review in court. The Trump administration has argued that the records should be exempt from disclosure because they are deliberative documents.
The case is Trump v. AFGE, 9th Cir., No. 25-4476, 9/24/25.
