More than 20,000 white, Hispanic, Asian, and mixed-race applicants weren’t fairly considered for hire as air traffic controllers because of their race, a lawsuit filed in federal court in Texas alleges.
The discrimination was caused by changes the Federal Aviation Administration made to its hiring policies in 2014, including requiring applicants to answer questions about their race and gender and to complete a biodata questionnaire, the Sept. 12 proposed class action alleges. The changes were made to give black applicants a better chance at being hired and increase diversity among air traffic controllers, the lawsuit says.
