ExxonMobil Sued Over Hangman’s Noose Display at Louisiana Plant

Exxon Mobil Corp., doing business as ExxonMobil Chemical Corp., faces a race discrimination lawsuit after it allegedly failed to take effective measures to prevent the display of hangman’s nooses in Baton Rouge, La., the EEOC said Thursday.

A Black employee at an ExxonMobil chemical plant reported finding a hangman’s noose at a worksite in 2020, the fourth report of a noose at the complex. The company allegedly investigated some of the incidents, but not all, and failed to end the harassment, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said.
