ExxonMobil Corp. must compensate nearly 1,800 workers for lost earnings to their retirement accounts after the company illegally pulled its contributions, a National Labor Relations Board judge ruled.

NLRB Administrative Law Judge Christal Key ruled Monday that the energy company violated federal labor law by refusing to bargain with the United Steelworkers union and ceasing its contributions to employees’ 401(k) accounts without getting consent from the union.
