ExxonMobil Gets Black Worker’s Race Bias Lawsuit Scaled Back

Exxon Mobil Corp. defeated a Black worker’s negligence and hairstyle discrimination claims, but the company failed to convince a judge to throw out the hostile work environment portion of the suit.

The worker can’t base a negligence claim on alleged discrimination and hasn’t yet included enough detail about the purported hairstyle bias, the US District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana said. However, he sufficiently alleged his coworkers spread a racist caricature of him throughout the workplace, so his remaining claim can move forward, the Wednesday opinion said.
