Exxon Mobil, Torrance Oil Workers Secure $4 Million Breaks Deal

Exxon Mobil Oil Corp., Torrance Refining Co. LLC, and other affiliates got their $4.39 million deal to resolve California rest-break claims affecting more than 330 workers approved by a federal judge.

The class members will split about $3.2 million. Class counsel will receive nearly $1.1 million in attorneys’ fees and $7,600 in costs.

The lawsuit was filed in 2018 by Michelle and Jim Kendig, who worked as operators assigned to 12-hour rotating shifts at a Torrance oil refinery that was operated by Exxon from September 2014 to June 2016, and then acquired by TORC and PBF Energy Ltd. in ...
