Exxon Mobil Ordered to Pay $800,000, Reinstate Whistleblowers

The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has mandated the reinstatement of two Exxon Mobil Corp. employees after they were allegedly fired illegally for being suspected of leaking information to the Wall Street Journal, the DOL said Friday.

An investigation determined that communication with the news source related to alleged company violations is protected activity under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, said DOL.

The company is to pay more than $800,000 in back wages, interest, and compensatory damages, said the agency.
