Ex-EEOC Worker Sues Civil Rights Agency Over Transgender Bias

The agency charged with enforcing federal antidiscrimination laws is being sued by a transgender former employee who said the EEOC under Republican Chair Andrea Lucas created a hostile work environment for him and other LGBTQ+ staff.

Marc Seawright, ex-director of information and governance strategy, said the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s rollback of transgender bias enforcement violated Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, according to his lawsuit filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. He also alleged the agency discriminated and retaliated against him.
