The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission swore in Karla Gilbride as its new general counsel, filing a position that’s been vacant for over two years.
Following the ceremony that took place Monday, she is set to lead the EEOC’s litigation efforts on behalf of workers accusing their employers of discrimination based on race, sex, age, disability, and other protected characteristics, overseeing the EEOC’s 15 regional attorneys and presenting major cases to the commission.
The civil rights litigator was confirmed Oct. 17 by the Senate in a 50-46 vote to serve a four-year term.
