A proposed rule that would alter how the federal government’s workplace civil rights agency resolves allegations of discrimination workers bring against their employers has cleared review by the White House’s regulatory office, setting it up for public release.
The proposal would address conciliation, a process the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission uses as a voluntary alternative to litigation after it has determined that an employer has discriminated against a worker, and thereby broken a workplace civil rights law. Both the employer and the worker must agree upon a resolution, or the agency can consider suing the employer.
