EEOC Clarifies AI Role in Hiring Bias Against Visually Impaired

Employers are legally obligated to accommodate job applicants and employees with visual disabilities when the company uses certain artificial intelligence-based tools to evaluate them, according to the EEOC.

New technical guidance issued on Wednesday by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said that software that uses AI or algorithmic decision-making may either intentionally or unintentionally “screen out” these individuals, despite their ability to do a job with or without reasonable accommodations. .
