The Employee Benefits Security Administration, along with the Internal Revenue Service and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp., released informational copies of the 2025 Form 5500, Form 5500-SF, IRS Form 5500-EZ, IRS Form 5558 and related instructions online.
The informational copies include several changes for 2025, such as new plan characteristic codes for identifying certain types of multiemployer and defined benefit plans, as well as modifications to existing codes. Federal regulations require pension and welfare benefit plans to file an annual return/report regarding their financial condition, investments, and operations using the Form 5500 series.
