DoorDash Faces Steep Cost After Workers Call Arbitration Bluff

A California judge’s decision ordering DoorDash to kick off the arbitration process with more than 5,000 couriers pushing individual claims is the latest win for workers’ attorneys seeking to call companies on their bluff to use the private resolution system to keep disputes out of court.

Mandatory Practice: Over half of nonunion private-sector employers have mandatory arbitration procedures, according to an Economic Policy Institute study. Workers’ attorneys have filed thousands of individual claims, at once, against companies who say they prefer arbitration, Erin Mulvaney reports.
