DOL Will Analyze Only Non-Student Workers for College Audits (1)

Graduate research assistants and other student workers won’t be considered by the Labor Department when it routinely analyzes employment practices at colleges and universities for potential discrimination.

The DOL’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs formally clarified that stance Sept. 5 in a new directive, and also released new guidance in the form of a Frequently Asked Questions section and a landing page.

However, the agency said it will still accept bias complaints from student workers, if they qualify as employees.
