DOL Settles Hiring Bias Probe Against Manufacturer for $230K

A construction manufacturer agreed to pay $230,000 to end an investigation from the Department of Labor alleging it prioritized Hispanic job candidates.

The DOL’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs found that Chicago-based Midwest Canvas Corp. hired Hispanic workers at significantly higher rates than other worker demographics, according to a settlement made public Monday.

The OFCCP is charged with enforcing nondiscrimination statutes against federal contractors. An agency analysis found that over 40 workers, mostly Black, were adversely impacted by the alleged hiring practices, which took place from March 2018 through September 2019.
