DOL Recovers $1.6 Million From Construction Services Contractor

The US Labor Department has recovered more than $1.6 million in back wages and liquidated damages for 188 workers employed by R&R Construction Maintenance of North Carolina Inc., according to a Wednesday news release.

The DOL’s Wage and Hour Division determined the company violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by misclassifying the workers as independent contractors and not paying them required overtime wages for hours over 40 in a workweek, the department said.
