DOL Advisory Panel Nominees Face New Conflict-of-Interest Review

Future members of U.S. Department of Labor advisory committees will face additional conflict-of-interest scrutiny prior to appointment, under a newly announced policy.

The department will now consider whether a nominee’s “professional judgment may be influenced, or appear to be influenced, by their financial interests” in grants previously awarded by DOL, according to the policy. It was published in the Federal Register on Friday.

The Labor Department hosts several advisory committees that focus on specific issues ranging from construction site safety to pension programs. The panels meet in public sessions and make non-binding recommendations on rules and programs.
