DOJ Sex Bias Pact for Michigan Prison Officers Gets Final Nod

The Justice Department’s $750,000 settlement of its lawsuit against the state of Michigan alleging discrimination against female corrections officers at Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility in job assignment and transfers got greenlit by a federal judge.

The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan granted final approval of the pact Thursday following a June 2 fairness hearing.

The agreement also requires that the state and the Michigan Department of Corrections change policies related to the transfer of female corrections officers from the prison, and the use of female-only staffing there. The department will make 15 priority transfers available ...
