A federal contractor that connects people with disabilities to jobs has agreed to pay more than $1 million to resolve an EEOC lawsuit claiming discrimination against deaf and hard-of-hearing workers.
Didlake, Inc. violated the Americans with Disabilities Act when it did not provide American Sign Language interpreters for employees at monthly safety meetings, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said in its complaint in the US District Court for the District of Maryland.
The nonprofit staffing agency also fired employees who requested unpaid medical leave as an accommodation but did not qualify for federal unpaid leave laws, the complaint said.
