DHS Proposes to Extend Flexibility for Employment Verification

Employers would have a path to new alternatives to performing in-person employment eligibility verification under proposed regulations from the Department of Homeland Security.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the agency temporarily waived requirements that employers inspect I-9 employment verification documents in-person if those employers were operating remotely. That option, announced in March 2020, was mostly extended through the end of October.
