DeSantis Approves Easing Work-Hour Limits for Older Teenagers

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) approved loosening restrictions on work hours for 16- and 17-year-olds enrolled in school and exempting home-schooled students in legislation signed Friday.

The GOP-backed bill (HB 49) eliminates a ban on late-night and overnight work when 16- and 17-year-olds don’t have school the next day and lets them work more than eight hours on Sundays and holidays, even if they precede a school day. It also allows parents to sign a waiver letting them work more than 30 hours a week when school is in session.
