Deputy General Counsel John Higgins Retires After Four Decades in NLRB Leadership Roles

John E. Higgins, deputy general counsel of the National Labor Relations Board, announced Sept. 23 that he will retire from the agency after a 46-year career that included service as a board member, acting general counsel, solicitor, and inspector general of the NLRB.

In a written statement, Acting General Counsel Lafe Solomon said Higgins is an “ardent advocate for the equitable enforcement of our labor laws” who “will be greatly missed.”

Higgins, who earned an undergraduate degree from Boston College and a master’s degree in collective bargaining from Cornell University, joined the NLRB after his graduation from Boston University Law ...
