Denver Teachers Strike Over Pay System, Living Wage

Denver teachers went on strike for the first time in 25 years in a dispute over the school district’s pay system.

The strike began at 7 a.m. Mountain Time Feb. 11, with some 2,100 teachers calling in sick, according to Denver Public Schools, Colorado’s largest school district. Negotiators for the Denver Teachers Classroom Association, which represents 5,353 educators in the district, walked out of talks Feb. 9 and refused to sit down with the district the next day.
