Denver Employment Hearing Officer Prevails in Pay Equity Case

Denver has agreed to pay $460,000 to its top employment hearing officer to settle her allegations she was paid less than a male officer with fewer responsibilities (McNaughton v. City and County of Denver, D. Colo., No. 16-CV-1238, response to motion to intervene 8/21/17).

The out-of-court settlement resolves a lawsuit filed against Denver by Valerie McNaughton, the city’s chief career service officer, under the Equal Pay Act of 1963 and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, McNaughton’s attorney, Charlotte Sweeney of Sweeney & Bechtold LLC of Denver, told Bloomberg BNA Sept. 6.
