Democrats Hope Paid Family Leave Finds New Life in New Congress

Lawmakers see renewed opportunity to pass a national paid family leave plan to cover new parents, caretakers, and workers with health problems.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) unveiled the latest version of the FAMILY Act Feb. 12, which would create a national insurance fund paid for by both employers and employees. The fund would be used to provide 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave to workers across the country.
