Former Democratic EEOC Commissioner Jocelyn Samuels sued the Trump administration claiming the president’s decision to fire her from the independent civil rights agency before the end of her term violated federal law.
Samuels, whose term at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission was set to expire in 2026, filed the lawsuit Wednesday in the US District Court for the District of Columbia.
The suit, one of several legal challenges to President Donald Trump’s unprecedented firings of Biden-era officials, could become a test case for court arguments that independent agency leadership is shielded from the White House’s at-will terminations.
