Deaf NYC Bus Job Applicant’s Bias Claims Fail on Appeal (1)

MTA Bus Co., a subsidiary of New York’s Metropolitan Transit Authority, prevailed on disability discrimination claims brought by a deaf applicant who wasn’t provided an ASL interpreter for a pre-employment exam, under a ruling by the Second Circuit on Friday.

Ike Williams is a locksmith with 20 years’ experience, the court said. In 2016, he wanted to apply for a locksmith job at MTA Bus, but since one wasn’t available he applied to a stockworker position that required an exam and relevant experience.
