D.C. Tipped Worker Minimum Wage Hike Poised for Repeal

A voter-approved minimum wage increase for tipped workers in Washington, D.C., is close to being repealed by the city council.

Voters in June supported an initiative to require tipped workers be paid the city’s minimum wage of $13.25 per hour. That would have eliminated a provision in local law that currently lets businesses pay tipped workers as little as $3.89 per hour as long as gratuities carry the workers’ income to the $13.25 minimum, or the employer would have to make up the difference.
