Davis Polk, Partners Look to Trim Black Ex-Associate’s Bias Suit

Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP fired a black former associate accusing it of race discrimination and retaliation because it became clear after three years he wasn’t up to the job, despite the “enormous time and effort” the firm invested in him, the firm and eight of its partners told a federal court in New York.

Kaloma Cardwell neglected tasks, missed deadlines, reached incorrect legal conclusions, and needed to have some of his work redone by senior lawyers, they said Thursday in a motion seeking partial dismissal filed with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
