Dallas Employers Face Sick Leave Mandate as Proposal Passes

Dallas employers will be required to provide workers with paid sick leave for illness and family-care needs under an ordinance passed by the City Council April 24.

The 10-4 vote to pass the ordinance comes after a petition to put paid sick leave on the ballot in the November elections failed for falling below the required signature threshold. But uncertainty remains as to whether such a local paid leave requirement will last as state lawmakers are considering a bill to ban such local ordinances.
