A civil rights group representing 22 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients will now be defending the program in federal court.
The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund had asked to be part of the lawsuit filed against DACA by Texas and six other states, arguing that the Justice Department wouldn’t do an adequate job of defending the program. The Trump administration’s Justice and Homeland Security departments used their opinion that DACA is legally invalid as a basis for ending it in September 2017.
