Curaleaf Holdings Inc. workers who say the cannabis company stole their tips secured a federal judge’s conditional permission to move forward as a group on behalf of employees in three states, but not the nationwide collective they sought.
The workers wanted to pursue Fair Labor Standards Act claims on behalf of employees at all of the nearly 150 retail dispensaries Curaleaf operated during the proposed collective period. They failed to demonstrate a nationwide tip-handling practice, but showed knowledge of how things worked in Arizona, Illinois, and Massachusetts, the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois said Thursday.
