A California credit union will pay $120,000 to settle a class action that accused the company of illegally rejecting loan applicants based on citizenship status.
A class of 48 individuals who sought loans from Valley First Credit Union between June 2020 and June 1, 2022, will be eligible for payments of $2,500 each as part of a deal that received preliminary court approval Wednesday. Valley First also agreed to immediately end a practice of denying applicants based on alienage or US citizenship status alone.
