Credit Union Sees Workplace Violence Restraining Order Reversed

A Silicon Valley-based credit union was improperly granted a restraining order on behalf of an employee against one of its members because the evidence didn’t show his “rude, impatient, aggressive, and derogatory” behavior threatened violence, the California Court of Appeal ruled.

Matthew Mehdi Rafat visited the Technology Credit Union branch near his home on March 24, 2021, and was assisted by M.L., a senior relationship banker, the court said. She at first helped him make a deposit to his personal account but things became heated when Rafat tried to open a business account, the court said.
