There’s one thing that’s clear about a federal judge blocking the Trump administration’s termination of a deportation protection program for young immigrants: There’s going to be uncertainty in the near future.
The Jan. 9 decision from Judge William H. Alsup of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California temporarily requires the Homeland Security Department to start accepting renewal petitions under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. The program, which provides deportation protection and work permits to young, undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children, was ended Sept. 5.
