Court Approves Agreement Removing
Teamsters Union From Federal Oversight

A federal judge in New York Feb. 17 approved an agreement between federal prosecutors and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters that will phase out federal oversight of the union’s internal affairs (United States v. Teamsters, S.D.N.Y., 88-cv-04486, 2/17/15).

The order, issued by Judge Loretta A. Preska of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, effectively brings to a close more than two decades of federal supervision of the Teamsters under a 1989 consent decree and replaces the decree with an agreement reached in January between the union and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for ...
