Coronavirus Prevention Efforts May Clash With Bias Laws

Employers should make sure any efforts aimed at preventing the outbreak of coronavirus in the workplace don’t run afoul of disability discrimination and worker safety laws. The level of risk is key when navigating these decisions, and ultimately defending a potential challenge in court.

Businesses Respond: Apple Inc., which relies on a supply chain in China, became one of the first tech companies to discuss the impact of the outbreak. Facebook Inc. suspended nonessential travel and WeWork closed some locations. Volkswagen AG and Starbucks Corp. also made concessions for safety in response.
