Cook County, Ill., and its sheriff’s office agreed to pay 560 female employees $31 million to settle their claims that they faced exhibitionist sexual harassment by detainees, federal court records show.

The settlement involves women who work or worked for the county or the Cook County Sheriff’s Office at a massive jail complex that comprises 36 buildings on eight city blocks. The lawsuit was filed in 2017 and was later certified as a class action by the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
