Construction Company Settles $99,000 Sex Discrimination Suit

Erie Construction Mid-West LLC will pay $99,000 and furnish additional relief to settle a sex discrimination and retaliation lawsuit in Dallas, Texas, the EEOC said Tuesday.

Erie subjected a female sales representative to a hostile work environment by playing music with sexually derogatory slurs, according to the agency. The employee opposed the music, and was allegedly fired due to her sex and opposition to the work environment.

Such alleged conduct violates Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which prohibits retaliation and employment discrimination on the basis of sex and requires employers to remedy harassment because of sex, ...
