Congress Members, Veterans Back Reservist on Pay at High Court

Members of Congress, nearly two dozen states, and veterans’ groups urged the US Supreme Court to side with a Coast Guard reservist when it hears his differential pay case during the high court’s upcoming term.

The reservist seeks to overturn an intermediate appellate opinion preventing him from collecting differential pay for the entire time he spent on active duty away from his higher-paying federal civilian work as an air traffic controller. “When Congress provides for veterans’ benefits, it means to benefit veterans,” according to a friend-of-the-court brief Military-Veterans Advocacy Inc. filed with the justices Monday.
