Company Must Bargain Over Security Cameras, NLRB Judge Says

A construction company must rethink its handbook policies after a National Labor Relations Board judge said it unlawfully put cameras in its vehicles.

InfraSource Services LLC violated federal labor law when it installed the surveillance cameras without bargaining with the International Union of Operating Engineers and the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters, said NLRB Administrative Law Judge Michael Rosas in a ruling Monday.

The unions, which represent workers at seven InfraSource facilities across Washington state, also alleged that management illegally gave verbal warnings to and suspended workers who covered up the monitoring devices.
