Comment Period for DOL Overtime Proposal to Remain at 60 Days

The US Department of Labor has declined requests to extend the comment period on its closely-watched proposal to update overtime pay requirements, arguing the public has enough time to weigh in.

DOL Wage and Hour Division Principal Deputy Administrator Jessica Looman said 60 days is the same amount of time prior administrations set for the comment period when updating DOL’s overtime regulations in the past. The agency held multiple listening sessions before issuing the proposal, and “stakeholders are generally familiar with the issues addressed” in the proposed rule, she said in a letter posted to the rulemaking docket.
