The Labor Department is urging the Colombian government to bolster its labor law inspection system and prosecution of anti-union violence to ensure respect for labor rights, as part of the U.S.-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement.
The DOL’s Office of Trade and Labor Affairs released a report Jan. 11 regarding Colombia’s efforts to address allegations of violations of the trade agreement’s labor provisions. The report also comes as President-elect Donald Trump has promised an overhaul of some trade pacts. The incoming administration hasn’t fully outlined its intent with renegotiating trade deals.
