The former pre-law program director at Connecticut’s Fairfield University failed to convince a federal judge in that state that a supervisor’s deposition supported her suit alleging her appointment wasn’t renewed at age 65 for discriminatory reasons.
Sharlene McEvoy said Yohuru Williams, the school’s associate vice president for academic affairs, made a number of ageist statements during Williams’s deposition, including that the pre-law program under McEvoy was “stuck in the 20th century.” But Williams’s testimony, when viewed in context, wasn’t evidence of any age-based animus against McEvoy, the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut said Oct. 29.
