Civil Rights Commission Calls for LGBT Bias Law

Congress should enact a federal law to prohibit discrimination against LGBT workers, a federal civil rights agency says in a recently published report.

The report is the first of its kind the U.S. Civil Rights Commission has undertaken since its creation as part of the 1957 Civil Rights Act, Catherine Lhamon, chair of the commission, told members of Congress during a briefing at the Capitol March 14. It results from a hearing the commission conducted in 2015 in which it heard arguments for and against federal legislation that would prohibit discrimination against LGBT workers.
